A twilight sensor can be used to automate switching the lighting on and off according to the current lighting conditions: when it gets dark in the evening, the light switches on automatically. When it gets lighter again in the morning, the light goes off again automatically.

Twilight sensors are usually installed in smart twilight switches or smart adapter plugs.
