Normal timers are impractical

If you don't feel like switching the Christmas lights on and off yourself every day, you can use timers. But that's not really practical: The timers are programmed once and then stubbornly stick to the stored times. But what if you come home at different times each day and never go to bed at the same time? Then you sit there in the dark on some days because the lights come on too late or go out too early. Or you're wasting energy because the default setting leaves the light on much longer than needed. This is exactly the problem you get rid of with smart home technology.

Better: Controlling the Christmas lights using smart home technology

With smart home technology, you can control your Christmas lights as needed - either by clicking on your smartphone or by calling ("Alexa, Christmas lights on!"). All you need for this are smart switch sockets (often colloquially referred to as adapter plugs). Or you can get lighting products with an integrated smart home function, e.g. B. a smart chain of lights. If you want to work with voice control, you also need the technology for the voice assistant.

Smart switch socket for indoor use

Smart switch sockets are available as individual plugs (e.g. the essentials Smart Home switch socket 10 A ) or multiple plug (e.g. essentials Smart Home 4-way power strip USB ). All essentials switch sockets are plugged between the conventional socket and the light element, connected to the WiFi and controlled via the essentials app. That means you only need to download a single app onto your smartphone, add the smart plug adapter as an application, assign it to individual rooms and then program it as required. You can then switch the Christmas lights on and off centrally via the app. And of course you can also add other family members to your user account in the app, so that every roommate who has downloaded the app can give the command to switch it on and off.

Are you already using smart voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant? Then you can also connect the essentials switch sockets to this.

Smart switch socket for outdoors

There are also smart switch sockets that have been specially designed for outdoor use, e.g. B. the essentials Smart Home switch socket outdoor 16 A. You can recognize weatherproof sockets by the protection class IP44. The second digit specifies the protection against water - the 4 means: "Protection against splashing water from all sides". Technically, the smart switch sockets for the garden and balcony work exactly like the smart switch sockets for indoors: You plug them in between your balcony or garden socket and the light decoration, connect them to the home WiFi network and add them as an application in the essentials app. Of course, voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant is also possible.

Smart fairy lights

Alternatively, you can also get one smart fairy lights grow, which is plugged directly into the conventional socket. The smart one essentials fairy lights offers a clear advantage compared to conventional fairy lights: In addition to the time programs, you can use the app to specify different color variations and light patterns and switch back and forth with a click of your own accord. Should the 150 LEDs light up constantly and thus radiate calm, or should they pulsate in waves, flash dynamically or glitter like Hollywood? Everything is possible. A total of nine light patterns are available. The color of the lighting can also be adjusted: the chain of lights can shine in red, purple, green, cyan, yellow, blue or traditionally in white, as well as in a colorful mix of colors.
